Looking for adventure? Come photograph Mexico, the land of color and beauty, of fiestas, parades, markets and muchas margaritas! And...have the time of your life!
Let us show you a Mexico far from the typical tourist cities and resort towns. We will take you into the small towns and villages surrounding Lake Chapala (and also visit the glorious colonial city of Guadalajara). You will see the true Mexico, villages with charming cobblestone streets and colorful flowered plazas, and poorer ones with dirt roads, lacking basic amenities. You will have the opportunity to explore new vistas and will never lack for subjects to photograph.
We will be serious photographers during the day, but have some "play time" too! In the evening, we will eat out in local restaurants, listen to some great Mexican music (maybe catch a mariachi band) and try out some salsa dancing.
We will help you understand how to shoot smarter, and how to see the world with new eyes, no matter what camera you use. You will become a better photographer and understand what makes a great picture and what to avoid. Whether your goal is to be a professional or simply to learn more about taking pictures, you will come back with greatly improved images.
Our approach is mostly hands-on personalized instruction. However, we offer two afternoon seminars on digital manipulation and hand tinting. Each day we will get working prints and spend some time on constructive critiques to help in the next day's shooting. Also bring some representative prints or a portfolio so we can discuss your work thus far and what you want to accomplish.
The towns of Chapala and Ajijic lie on the shores of Lake Chapala and are only a ½ hour drive from the Guadalajara airport. Surrounding the lake are many small fishing villages and typical Mexican towns. Picturesque Ajijic, combines quaint and time-honored traditions & customs with sophisticated ethnic restaurants and cultural activities. We will stay in a charming inn in the center of town, within walking distance of the lake, plaza, restaurants, boutiques & artist's galleries.
Your hostess is Jill Flyer, a professional photographer who lives and works in the area and who has participated in shows both in the U.S. and Mexico. Our guest instructor is Christopher Schneberger, a well known photographer in the Chicago metropolitan area, who has been represented in many galleries and exhibitions. Chris currently teaches photography at Columbia College and directs the Photography program at the Evanston Art Center.
