Jill Flyer - Ajijic, Mexico
ARTIST BIO & RESUME
Jill photographed in black & white for many years, working with advanced printing techniques & exploring new ways of expressing images. She moved to Ajijic, Mx in 2003 from Chicago, IL, where she enjoyed success with photos of South America and Mexico, as well as the farmlands of Illinois.
Her hand painted photos also received a lot of attention. While painting photos has existed for many years, the object was to reflect true colors. Instead, Jill thought it would be great fun to invent fantasy colors letting her imagination run wild -- mauve fish with green lips, silvery trees and purple & yellow skies. As they are hand painted, each becomes an original painting.
In a complete reversal, Jill recently decided to switch to digital color photography, which has been a great and intriguing challenge, especially the myriad manipulations that are possible. But she believes that the lessons she learned in black & white can help her to be an even better color photographer. To be a good black and white photographer, one has to understand form and structure and gradations of intensity of colors. If one can apply this knowledge to color, the results can, hopefully, produce interesting, unusual photos with different color adjustments.
